According to the Pew Research Center, in December 2023, approximately 36% of adults aged 18-29 reported believing in God, as described in the Bible. For young adults who have not read the Bible before, those who have read it but with limited understanding, and those with fundamental truths, we present concise truths about the Creator-God of the world, including all living and nonliving things, from the Bible that, by reading them, you may know the truth, which will empower you to experience true life, liberty, and flourishing.
The United States Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1776, captures the timeless claim: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that their Creator endows them with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”These truths echo the Bible’s declaration:
“So God created man in His own image… male and female He created them.”1
The God of the Bible is the Creator-God of the universe enshrined in the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1776, so that humanity, including young adults, can model their lives after His character traits because He created both male and female in His own imagefor His glory, honor, praises, pleasure, and to provide the foundation for human worth, value, and identity.
“The word “GOD” in Genesis 1:1 means Elohim, which is the plural Hebrew word for the Strong One- El.” “This plurality is seen in“Let us make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness.”According to the Bible, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; these three are one. The LORD our God is one LORD.”2The Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit “are three distinct Persons, co-eternal, co-existent, and co-equal in essence, power, and attributes.” And these three are ONE CREATOR-GOD. “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to our children and to us forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”3 Below is a concise summary of the essence and attributes revealed about the Creator-God, which young people should model their lives after.
God is “Our Father which art in heaven…”4He is God the Father. He created the heavens and the earth in the beginning. 5 He founded the world and all that is in it.6 God is the Creator of all things that are in heaven, and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, principalities or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him, all things consist.7 God is Spirit.8 As such, He is immaterial, 9 invisible,11 and alive . 12 God is self-existent13 and infinite in space and time.14 He is the Everlasting God. 15 God is all-powerful; he can do all things he purposes. He is the Lord who is called the Almighty.16 God is all-knowing; He is infinite in knowledge, knowing the future, knowing all things possible, and knowing things existing.17 God is “present everywhere at once…He is present in all his creation,18 but in no manner limited by it”. He “transcends all space and is not subject to the limitations of space.” God is unchangeable19“ in his essence, attributes, consciousness and will.” God is holy20 “separate from and exalted above all his creatures, and he is equally separate from all moral evil and sin.” God is righteous21 as “seen in his treatment of the creature.” Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Thy throne.22 God is good.23 His goodness is manifested as God’s love, benevolence, mercy, and grace. God is love.24Love is His nature. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. God is benevolent:25 as such, he “deals bountifully, tenderly and kindly with all his creatures”. “The benevolence of God is manifested in his concern for the welfare of the creature: it is suitable for the creature’s needs and capacities.” God is rich in mercy26 … full of compassion and is merciful27 …and has great mercy28.“God’s mercy is his goodness manifested towards those who are in misery or distress”. God is truth,29, and the source of all truth. “His knowledge, declarations, and representations eternally conform to reality”.
God reveals Himself to humanity through The Word, Jesus Christ, His Son, and the Savior of the world from human depravity, guilt, and the death penalty to obtain salvation for a purpose-driven life on earth and life eternal with Him hereafter.
JESUS CHRIST is the WORD…He is God30…the Mighty God…the Almighty…the Son of God. 31 Jesus is the Word by whom all things were made and without him was not anything made that was made…all things were created by Him that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, principalities or powers. He created all things, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist.32 Jesus is the image of the invisible God33… “the Word made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth”.34 Jesus is the Light of the world:35 He is our Savior36 and Redeemer who came to earth to save and redeem us because we can’t save ourselves from sin’s consequences…” Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”.37 Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life,38 the coming King,39 and the JUDGE of all the world.40 Jesus possesses divine attributes. He is eternal. Jesus is being in existence “in the beginning”,41 “from everlasting”,42, and “continues forever”.43 Jesus fills all,44 “transcends all space, and is not subject to the limitations of space”; “He was in heaven while on earth and is on earth while in heaven.”45 Jesus knows all things,46 and in him “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”47 “However, it must be recognized that in the days of his humiliation, Jesus surrendered the independent exercise of his divine attributes” to God the Father, hence, “there are certain statements which seem to indicate something less than” Jesus being all- knowing. Jesus is all-powerful.48 He is the “Mighty God. 49 He upholds all things by the word of His power50… and all authority is given to him. 51 Jesus has power over demons52…disease53…death54…the element of nature55…and all things.56 Jesus’ suffering, death, burial, and resurrection bring about the salvation of humanity- the forgiveness of sin, removal of guilt, cancellation of death, newlife, right standing and new position with the Creator-God, and the transformation of young adults’ lives who repent and put their faith in Christ Jesus, providing a firm foundation for a purpose-driven and eternal life; promoting their spiritual and physical growth and development.
Jesus having completed His earthly ministry of teaching, preaching, healing, suffering, death, burial and resurrection, told the disciples, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart I will send him unto you…when he the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come; he shall glorify me: for he receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” Now, the Holy Spirit is present and dwells in the lives of those who repent of their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The Holy Spirit is eternal,57 all-powerful,58 all-knowing,59, and He fills all.60 “Works of deity are ascribed to him”, such as creation,61 regeneration,62 inspiration of the Bible,63, and raising of the dead.64 “The Holy Spirit is a divine personality who seeks to get hold of us and use us.” The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Living God,65 the Spirit of Christ,66 the Spirit of Holiness,67 the Spirit of Truth,68 the Spirit of Life,69 the Spirit of Wisdom,70, and the Comforter.71 The Holy Spirit teaches,72 bears witness with us,73reproves the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment,74 guides us into all truth,75 glorifies Jesus,76 speaks,77 calls men into service,78 intercedes for saints,79 helps and gives victory in temptation,80 helps in prayer,81 fills believers with peace, joy and boldness,82 sanctifies,83 comforts, counsels and commands,84 illuminates and inspires,85 adopts into God’s family, empowers,86 directs gospel work,87 confirms the gospel,88 searches and reveals the deep things of God.89 The Holy Spirit indwells in the lives of repented individuals at salvation who put their faith in Jesus, and produces in their lives the moral character of Christ (the fruit of the Spirit), including holy life, love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control. Others include wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and various skills.90
As young adults, you were created by God in His image to reflect His revealed character in the person of Jesus Christ. Modeling your life after God’s revealed nature in Jesus is profitable in all things,91profitable in this life,92 and profitable in the life to come.93
