THE PRACTICE OF PUTTING OFF OLD, CORRUPT HUMAN NATURE

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to deceitful lust.”1

At the time you are spiritually reborn, you must “know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives.”2 Now you are in Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ has made you right with God. He has become your wisdom from God, made you pure and holy, and has freed you from sin.3 “You must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Bible says, “You must be holy because I am holy.”4

At the instant you are born again, you enter a spiritual warfare with the adversary, the devil.5 The reason is that the salvation you’ve receivedhasn’t taken you out of this present evil world ruled by Satan.6Therefore, you must “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in faith.”7 When a person is born again, to come sin again is a choice between walking after the Holy Spirit for eternal life, “perfect soundness” and peace, or walking after the flesh, which is sin, disease, and death. The practice of putting off old, corrupt nature, or old, sinful nature, is to prevent you from slipping back into your old ways of living to satisfy your old, sinful desires.
